“Paroo” is a music-documentary record of the National Strike of October 2019 in Ecuador. It unfolds over several days of the protests, beginning on October 4 and ending two days before the protests were called off. Hannah Lee went out into the streets to record sounds, from which she produced the piece “Paroo,” while Francisco Galárraga did the same with his video cameras, documenting the events taking place near El Arbolito park in Quito, Ecuador and the surrounding areas.
Several years later Hannah released a second version of the song "Paroo V2 - Ecuador del Encuentro". More experimental in nature, I also worked on the music video using the original video as a base, expanding with new film recordings and experimenting on the visuals taking into the account the new social political situation of Ecuador at the time, that actually worsened since the years of the first National Strike.
Both films have been selected to participate in regional Film and Video/Art Festivals:
- Festival de Cine Anarquista Bakatá (2022) - Bogotá, Colombia. 1st edition
- Videotitlán "Argot Audiovisual" (2021) - Mexico DF, Mexico. 3rd Edition
